Glass or Plastic Packaging, what’s the difference? You will notice we package in glass and plastic containers. In the past if DMSO was packaged in plastic containers using BPA (Bis Phenol A) as a plasticizer, it would easily leach into the DMSO and therefore be consumed or absorbed into skin. BPA is no longer used in any plastic containers manufactured in the USA. All of our containers are certified to be BPA free. We do not use any foreign made plastic bottles to ensure the safety of our customers. While some customers prefer glass others do not mind storage in plastic so long as its BPA free, It’s a matter of choice. We have tested all the containers we use for packaging DMSO including glass in order to understand if there was anything toxic leaching into the DMSO. The results where conclusive, we found absolutely nothing dissolving from the plastic or the glass container after storing for 6 months. What exactly is DMSO? Dimethyl Sulfoxide has some very interesting properties, it is a very nontoxic dipolar aprotic organic solvent that is a naturally occurring substance. DMSO has extensive uses and is found in many food products from beer to milk! It has a very low acute toxicity for animals, plants and aquatic life. There are many innovative uses for DMSO currently being studied. Exposure to DMSO – Skin contact, the most likely exposure has been extensively studied with humans and animals with large dosages over extended period of times showing only minor effects such as skin irritation, itching and a burning sensation. There have been no long term detrimental effects observed from exposure to DMSO. Should the DMSO feel warm apply water to effected area. What’s different about low Odor DMSO? It’s important to understand that pure Pharma grade DMSO has no real odor and the constituents that cause this are from dimethyl sulfide and also bismethylthiosulfate. When manufacturing on an industrial scale these components are not removed and have absolutely no effect on the performance properties of DMSO. How to Store DMSO – DMSO should always be stored in a dry dark place for long term stability. DMSO is hygroscopic and therefore you should always keep it closed when not using. DMSO will slowly degrade over time when exposed to direct light. It is best stored somewhere cool, dry, and dark. How long can DMSO be stored and used – If DMSO is stored correctly it will be useful for no less than 2 years from date of purchase if stored in a dark cool dry place. My DMSO arrived and its Solid/Frozen/Crystallized If your DMSO arrives with crystals or has solidified there is no need to worry. This is completely normal and can be easly turned back into a liquid with no effect on the product. DMSO freezes at 65 Deg F. It can be turned back into a liquid by allowing it to thaw out above this temp, however it will take some time. You can run warm water over the container if you want it to thaw quicker.
